Since Maddie Rose is one of the two most popular poster girls on this website, I thought I would post a recently uncovered photo of her namesake and grandmother. Tina was digging through some stuff, found this, and sent it to me (thanks Tina!). I don't know whether the rest of the family has seen it or not, so I thought I would post it for everyone to enjoy. The inscription said "Madeleine Mary Joyner about 192?". The most surprising thing about it was that I didn't realize that she spelled Madeleine with an "ei". Just to be sure that I was reading the writing correctly I went to my birth certificate, and it is correct. (Maybe everyone else knew this all the time, and old spelling challenged Tim has to wait 'til he is 57 to figure it out.)

Of course the main reason I didn't know was that the whole time I was growing up, she referred to herself as "Sue". The only ones that called her Maddie when I was around were Aunt Katie and Uncle Sam. Lore has it that the moniker Sue came from her performance as "Sue" in a college play, and she kept it.

Comments:
That all sounds about right from what I've been told. We decided it would be easier without the "ei", as that's the french way to spell it(???). That is a beautiful picture of Grandma. I can really see the resemblance to the four brothers in that younger photo.

Thanks Tim ( and Tina) for the pic. I haven't seen it before. I'm glad you checked the spelling because someone told me I was nuts spelling it with an "ie". Now if I could only remember who it was I could tell him/her off.

that is a beautiful photo and namesake. i believe tom and annie have a copy of that photo??? i might be wrong but it look incredibly familiar to me. nicola

Yep, we do have a copy of that photo, although without the frame.

Tim's memory aboujt the name Sue is the same as mine.

ie, ei, e,,,,, eh, what's the difference? I can probably spell it all three ways in the same sentenence and not realize it.

No cracks about other things I don't realize.

Tom

Great picture!

We'd love a copy to hang in Maddie's room if anyone can get us one.

Hey Tom, what's a "sentenence?"

Katie, I will be more than happy to send you the original that I have. It should be passed on to the next generation, and now is as good a time as any. Uncle, Tim

I told you I could spell something wrong three times in the same sentence, in this case there are three en's in the same word!

Sooooo!

Merry Christmas to you all. Tom, thanks for the DVD of the movies. Fun
