Wow, it's only been a few months. Go Maddie go!

More of Amy's kids.
I'm sure that any of you would be welcome to visit them. It is a treat.

Judy Terry's second grade class with Mother Mary Rose on the front steps of the convent. Can you pick out Judy?

The great class size debate of March 2006 (AKA Aging Memories) roars (whimpers?) on. Attached is a class picture from my second grade class at St. Rose's school in Santa Rosa, shot in the convent yard adjacent to the school. I was wrong, there weren't 50 kids, there were 49 (someone must have been sick that day, I can't possibly be WRONG). In my 4th grade class picture there were 48 and in my 7th grade class picture there were 52.
When counting number of kids it surprised me how many names I could remember. Hell, I have trouble remembering my name when I get up in the morning now!

Miss Caulfield and her second graders.

Just got back from a day in Amy's 2nd grade class at St. Timothy's. They are doing great, as is she. Wow, what a difference from Virginia Road. This was my second time to her new school. I was even more impressed. Amy(Miss Caulfield) has settled in, enjoys the faculty and seems to have the job she invisioned when she decided to be a teacher: Eager and motivated students who react to her expectations for them.
I hope to post a couple of pics tomorrow.
ps. On Sun. Amy , Pete and I visited the Queen Mary and Long Beach Harbor. Boy has Long Beach changed since we visited the Gilberts
there in the 50's.
ps. Sorry, couldn't resist posting another pic of Amy's niece. Here she's watching a video of her mom. Aaaaaaah

Isabella Sofia is feeling better. :) She and her mama now both have colds, but for her, this is nothing compared to her discomfort the last 5 days. Thanks for the well-wishing messages!
Aren't these two cuties? Isabella is super sick right now...ended up in the urgent care ward of the Children's Hospital last night. :(
Is anyone else having problems uploading photos again?

More Maddie pics.
Ain't she cute.

Future Vet. Like mother like daughter.
Rich sent this because he couldn't post it, so I thought I would try.

Rich asked if I had a picture of Judy from the same party as the ones below, and I didn't. But I had this one of us painting the kitchen at 420 Steele Lane, in Santa Rosa. It had to be about 1967 or 68. As you can see, the situation is as it usually was, Judy working and Rich .... uh ... supervising. Actually, that same day I just about wet my pants laughing when Rich, standing on one of the chairs, decided to jump off. Well, his head when standing on the chair was only about an inch or two from the ceiling, so needless to say he sort of stunned himself when he hit it on the way up. ... I guess you had to be there, because reading this it doesn't sound too funny.

There, it worked that time. Rosalie was talking about the color change of my beard from 1967 to now, I though fair play would include a comparison of my WAY older brother Rich, then and now. This picture was taken at the same party as the T&A pic in the late sixties or early seventies. Compare it to the picture below. Rich must be dying his hair gray now just to make us all feel better. He certainly seems a lot happier now than then!
Well, I think Rich musta broken the upload capability, because I don't seem to be able to get it to work now. Either that or it didn't like the picture of Rich that I was uploading (which I can understand) to compare hair color then to now. So I will watch and see if it is discriminating against me now or what.

WE're at Maddie's house for a couple of days, so you're in for lots of Maddiepics. Ain't she cute!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. Above is a picture of the
Céide Fields museum in Mayo.
The discovery of what is now known as Céide Fields really began back in the 1930s when a local schoolteacher, Patrick Caulfield from Belderrig, often noticed piles of stones in the bottom of the bog when cutting his turf. To everybody else these were meaningless but he realised two very important points - firstly, the way the stones were piled up couldn't be natural so somebody had to put them there, and secondly, because they were down underneath the peat they had to be put there prior to the growth of the bog and so must be very ancient...
In 1989 a project was launched by Dr. Seamus Caulfield and Prof. Martin Downes along with a local committee to build a Centre at Céide which would use the results of the research as an economic resource by attracting tourists to the area. The following year the OPW became involved and designed the award-winning Centre which was opened to the public in May 1993.
Anyhow, a meeting with Patrick Caulfield was apparently the inspiration for Nobel prize winning poet Seamus Heaney's "Belderg."
The poem was pinned to the door of his house by Heaney as a thank you note after a visit in 1974.
Anyone know more about this? If so, post a comment.
I think the blog should be fixed now. Brien has been playing with it - he thinks it had gotten too big and exceeded allotted memory space.
Check out the pic of Megan, Kate and Kerri Ann I posted on behalf of Rosalie (it's under Tim's pic of Tom, Annie and BooBoo II).
Cheers, Katie

Well it looks like the picture upload issue has been solved. Just thought I would post this picture of Tom, Annie and Booboo 1, taken sometime in the late sixties I believe. Maybe they can fix the date closer. I think it was take at a party at the beach. It is the last time I remember Tom wearing a full beard.
For last 2 days can't upload photo. Is this a plot?
Megan, Kate & Kerri Ann during their visit to grandma and grandpa last weekend!

Here's Maddie wearing a rainbow hat that was Tosh's. The elephant "Junk in the Trunk" shirt is from Auntie Amy. We were enjoying all the snow we got the other day (not quite as unusual as for the Bay area and Sacto area folks!) in Maddie's giant snowsuit from Grandma Roberts. She's up to 11# 4oz and 21.5 inches long at her 4 month appointment. That puts her at the 10th percentile for weight, but she fell off the bottom of the chart for height! We'll just call her the round mound of rebound. . .

While you guys are getting the snow that we want we are having a virtual snow drought. One of the

pictures that you see is the meadow below our deck as taken today (03/12/06). It should be covered with snow, but no0000, you guys are hogging it all and taking it out of the air before it can get to where it rightly belongs, here in Vermont.
One upside, yesterday we had a fantastic snowshoe treck (no wise cracks, you actually did need snowshoes there because it is higher and the snow remains) to the top of Camels Hump with some friends (other picture) in Camel's Hump State Park about 40 miles north of here. It was an incredibly clear day and we could see the White mountains in New Hampshire on one side and Lake Champlain and the Adarondacks in NY on the other. The view from the top made the 8 mile round trip worth it. Did I mention that our legs are sore today.
Anyway, don't bother sending us our snow now, you guys have already used it and we are starting to get ready for sping. We had the first part of honest to goodness mud season yesterday on the way home from the hike, and grounded the car out twice in the ruts on the way up Braintree hill.

Snow in Cameron Park too. In middle of the nite the lawn and golf course were covered. Fun.
Glad to hear Tom called.
I know this isn't impressive by Vermont standards, but we actually got snow in San Carlos. Look at our flower bed! I had the experience of scraping a car windshield this evening. Crazy.
We finally got all the crap cleared up in the new place. Here are some pics!

Have you seen Planet Pooch?
planet poochIt's doggy daycare, with a webcam so you can check in on your best friend while you're at work. I think it's the funniest thing.
